Take It Across the Country
by Katie Burchfield
It was June 3, 1996 when our Lord instructed me to turn my vehicle around and go back to the gas station. It was divine intervention with no hesitation on my part, like so many other experiences that year. I looked down at my gas gauge for I really didn't need any gas. So, why did our Lord want me to go back? I pulled up to a gas pump and started pumping gas. Then the Holy Spirit told me to record what I saw. I said, "Record what I see! Lord, what do you mean?" I went to pay for the gas and bought some snacks. I got back into the van, opened up my new journal and took out my pen. I looked up and what I saw was an eighteen wheeler truck park directly in front of me. This was what our Lord wanted me to record. So I wrote down everything I saw about the truck. When I couldn't think of anything else to record I closed my journal and drove off. On down the road I asked our Lord why did He instruct me to write about that truck? I knew hardly nothing about trucks except that they're big and I didn't like to drive to close to one. But, our Lord was silent! So, I put the question back in my head and went on about my business.
Then a week later on June 11, 1996 Jesus instructed me about doing the representation of Him that is enclosed with this letter. Three months later the painting was completed with the combined efforts of Jesus' personal instructions, the direction of the Holy Spirit, my personal experiences and the skills of the artist. The name given to the representation of Christ is "The Royal Bridegroom." His arms are opened wide for His Bride the Church and compassion for "all". Jesus is also portrayed with white hair as described in scripture. "The Royal Bridegroom", a painting in my mind that was to be a personal gift for me. A gift that captured the personal oracle I experienced that year with the Triune God. Then I found out that this painting was not just for me. It was to be a gift that captured a personal message from Jesus to the World. This truth was given to me when Jesus said He will use this image to encourage God's children.
Then something happened on July 4, 1996 while taking out the American flag. The Holy Spirit held me. I stood frozen on the sidewalk with the America flag flapping in the wind. Then I heard, "Take it across the country." I said with my head bowed, "Lord, take what across the country?" Then the representation of Jesus Christ as the Royal Bridegroom flashed in my mind. An image that had not yet been painted. I replied, "Lord, how am I to do this"? But the Lord remained silent. Not a word did He say, but the silent moment with Him flooded me completely with tremendous joy. After the joy subsided, I posted the flag and went about my business pondering the words of Jesus. He wanted me to take it across the country, but how? I knew everything would be revealed in God's time.
One day during that same month the Holy Spirit led me to a church, an Assembly of God church. I had no idea why for I was Baptist. There I was standing in the parking lot of this large church eating chocolate mint ice cream and feeling the presence of Jesus. It was a wonderful Saturday with white clouds floating through a blue sky. The view was beautiful for it was on top of a hill. I was enjoying the moment when I heard our Lord speak from my heart. I heard, "Take it across the country". I replied, "How!" Then I noticed a line of eighteen wheelers going down the highway and I recalled what happened on June 3rd. Now I understood why our Lord instructed me on June 3rd. to go back to the gas station. The following weeks our Lord gave me the names of three trucking companies with additional instructions about the image.
Painting of the image began in August. Then another unusual event started to take place in September. I was driving around town taking care of daily duties when the Holy Spirit directed me to put the painting with a message on billboards. This was also to be done with the trucks. The Holy Spirit directed me to four billboards. I knew nothing about billboards, just like I knew nothing about trucks, or designing a rotating cross, or having a painting done. But, I trusted in Jesus and His direction. First, I had to have the painting. It was completed under my direction just before my birthday, September 18th. I then took it to a professional photographer. Who recommended all kinds of negatives for future use. The hand of God was at work. I felt just like a child following the lead of her Father. Then I contacted the billboard company and made an appointment. I took the painting with me and the manger was very helpful in accomplishing the task. I never realized how expensive it was to have a billboard. I was grateful for the deal he gave me. The billboard went up at the very first spot in October 1996 that our Lord instructed. It went to every spot as instructed except the last spot. The last spot was located at a truck stop. I called the company who did put it up. But, it went up at a location just a block from the truck stop. This was OK with me, but it wasn't where the Holy Spirit directed me to put it. I called the company to find out what was the problem. The manager replied that they didn't own that billboard. I was very surprised for I figured they own all billboards. I was curious, so I drove to the truck stop and saw that the billboard was own by an out of town company. I called the company from the truck stop to find out that the owner had been inspired by the image. He also felt inspired by the Holy Spirit to carry the sign free of charge as long as it was needed. He has been putting the sign up since April of 1996. Praise the Lord, for this was an answer to a prayer. I had asked our Lord how could I keep the message up on my income? This owner gave me my answer. Jesus will provide! I believe Jesus allowed this to happen so others would know that He is at work here. It then went up at the fourth location given to me, which was the truck stop! It is still being moved around town to encourage all Christians.
My crusade to reach the three trucking companies starting in August 1996. It continued throughout the year with no success. Discouragement started to creep inside of me. Jesus told me to do something, yet I couldn't see how I could possibly do it. It became difficult to contact companies while I was back at school. Offices and contacts were closed by the time I got home. I tried to do as much as I could during the summer and holidays with little success. It can be difficult to find extra time when one works and has a family. I started to doubt the word of the Lord. Yet, I am committed to our Lord Jesus. I love Him so much. Plus! He wouldn't let the task leave my heart.
Then in November 1997 I received a newspaper article from Irondale, Ala. concerning one of the three companies. The company was located in Birmingham, Alabama. I contacted the owner. We talked about the news article and I asked him if I could come down to see him. I didn't tell him why. He told me to come for he felt it was God's will. I went down during the Thanksgiving Holidays. I took the painting and told my story to the owner. He then told me how all three companies were connected. That the owner of one of the companies was a minister. That he started his own company because of the encouragement of that man. That the owner of the second company was also the step-father of that same man, who happened to have a office down the street. The main office for the first company was in Tennessee. The other company was in Georgia. This company in Birmingham agreed to do the job. Shortly after that I was asked to speak in New Jersey. A very generous business man after hearing my story gave the money to have the message put on one truck. I was saddened when I came back home and found out that the company had to be sold. But, I met with the new owner and he agreed to do the job at no cost to me.
The owner bought a new trailer to put the message on, but events kept coming up that prevented the job from taking place. Four months past and nothing had been done. Then one day after I came back from completing my mission in New York something happened. I just asked in prayer what was the problem? Jesus instructed me that the trailer was the problem. The trailer had ribbets. The trailer for the image had to be smoother. I called the company the next day with the message. The owner was out of town and the secretary said she would give him the message, but she forget to do it. Then about three weeks later she called me with exciting news. First that all trailers for the company had ribbets. But, that week the owner had placed an order for 20 trailers without ribbets. She then remembered what I told her weeks earlier. She then told the owner about our conversation. Another sign for others that God is at work. Shortly after that the new trailer arrived and the job was completed. The truck looks awesome with the image and message on it. Praise the Lord!
This representation and it's message is spreading throughout our country and other countries. Other trucking companies and billboard companies are needed inorder to spread it. A visual message for visual beings that can be seen daily to give encouragement and hope especially for the coming months. Especially for 1999 as confusion and distress increases for many. You can help by spreading this story and the pictures, when so many people do not read the Bible or attend church. Also writing letters of encouragement to the companies will help, and prayers are always appreciated.
